What this tool does

Location is the Webex Calling unit of configuration

Every Webex Calling site is a location in Control Hub. Locations own their PSTN mode, emergency call address, time zone, main number, and default device registration. Mis-configure any of these and you break 911, auto-attendants, or PSTN outbound. This tool emits one row per location with all fields validated.

Deep dive

PSTN mode decides everything

Webex Calling supports three PSTN modes per location: Cloud Connected PSTN (CCP — via Cisco partner), Cloud Connect (Webex's own PSTN), and Local Gateway (LGW — your on-prem SBC/CUBE bridging to existing carrier). You can mix modes across locations but not within one location. LGW is required for bring-your-own-carrier scenarios and for PSTN in regions without Webex presence.

Emergency calls route differently per PSTN mode. CCP and Cloud Connect deliver 911 to RedSky or Intrado via the provider. LGW routes 911 through your on-prem PSTN — which means E911 service registration is your responsibility, not Webex's. For remote workers, use HELD (HTTP Enabled Location Delivery) — the client dynamically reports location per call, not per location config.

Time zone matters because auto-attendants and hunt group schedules use the location's time zone. If you run a 24/7 contact center across three cities, each location's business-hours menu will trigger at that location's local 9am — which is usually what you want, but check the assumption.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I change PSTN mode after go-live?

Yes but it's disruptive. Requires moving phone numbers between providers.

Do remote workers need a location?

Yes — create one "Remote" location with HELD for dynamic 911.

How many locations can I have?

No hard limit. Common deployments have 5-50 locations.

Can users move between locations?

Yes — assign user to a different location in Control Hub; phone number may need to change.

Worked examples

Three deployment shapes

Single location, 60 users

Small biz, one office.

One location "HQ", Cloud Connect PSTN, static 911.
Simplest deployment. 30-min setup.

Multi-state, 4 locations, 275 users

Standard mid-market.

4 locations, mix of CCP (2) and LGW (2), HELD for Remote bucket.
LGW sites keep existing carrier contracts.

Global, 15 locations, 1200 users

Multi-country, multi-currency, mix of partners.

15 locations, regional CCP in US/UK/APAC, LGW in countries Webex doesn't cover.
Plan country-by-country PSTN strategy early.
