What this tool does

Same speed dials for everyone — the right way

Every company has a set of speed dials every user should have — main number, helpdesk, HR, reception, security, conference-bridge. Pushing them one at a time via Self-Care Portal takes months of nagging. Pushing them via BAT takes 10 minutes. This tool generates the BAT CSV for speed dials plus optional BLF entries, ready to import.

Build your speed-dial batch

Inputs

blf = "yes" to make it a BLF speed dial (shows remote device busy state); "no" = plain speed dial.

Your BAT CSV

Fill in the fields, click Generate CSV.

How to read your result

Device × speed dial per row

1

One CSV

Device Name is the key column. Each speed dial gets Index, Number, Label columns.

2

BLF variants

BLF speed dials add Destination and Label columns with a different prefix.

3

Apply via Update Phones

BAT → Phones → Update Phones → Speed Dials.

Deep dive

Speed Dial vs BLF Speed Dial — pick one per button

Each phone button that's configured as a Speed Dial has one number, one label, and rings the destination when pressed. A BLF (Busy Lamp Field) Speed Dial does the same thing plus monitors the destination's call state — the LED next to the button is off when idle, solid when in a call, and blinking when ringing. BLF is perfect for administrative assistants, small-team hunt-group members, and reception desks. It's inappropriate for common-area phones (reveals call state to anyone nearby) and for remote workers who aren't supposed to know when their boss is on a call.

The BAT Update Phones template has different field sets depending on Speed Dial vs BLF Speed Dial. This tool emits the right field per entry based on the blf flag in your input. For mixed imports (some speed dials, some BLF) the CSV has both column groups; fields for the unused type are left blank per row — BAT handles this correctly.

Keep total entries per device ≤ the free buttons on the Phone Button Template. The 7841 has 4 line/feature keys; if lines 1–1 take 1 button, you have 3 speed dial slots. The 8851 has 5; the KEM expander adds 28 per module. Don't push 20 speed dials to a 7841 — they'll just be invisible.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I push speed dials to all phones at once?

Yes — use BAT query filters to select all phones in a site or device pool. Output this CSV with the filter result, not a manually-typed device list.

Do BLF speed dials need anything on the destination phone?

No extra config on the destination — CUCM manages presence internally. The destination's line must be in a Partition the source's CSS can reach.

What if a user already has different speed dials?

BAT Update Phones appends at the specified index, overwriting existing entries at those indices. Document what you're replacing before running.

Do speed dials consume button slots?

Yes. Check the Phone Button Template first — you need slots assigned to Speed Dial / Speed Dial BLF for these to appear.

Worked examples

Three realistic batches

Company-wide "common 5"

Helpdesk, HR, Reception (BLF), Security, Conference Bridge — to all 800 phones

800 × 5 = 4,000 rows. One BAT job, ~3 minutes to import.
Biggest single-day UX improvement you can ship. People stop memorizing 5-digit extensions.

Executive BLF cluster

12 executives, all monitor each other's lines → 11 BLF entries each

12 × 11 = 132 rows. Appears instantly on all 12 phones.
Executive staff assistants love this. Also catches "boss is in a meeting" without interrupting.

Call center team scope

25 agents get BLF to 4 supervisors

25 × 4 = 100 rows. Agents see which supervisor is free for escalation.
Sounds trivial, changes how agents hand off to their supervisors.
