Paste MAC addresses and descriptions — get a BAT-ready Phone + 1 Line CSV with device pool, CSS, partition, and sequential DNs that uploads cleanly into CUCM.
The CUCM BAT CSV Generator (Phones) builds the Phone + 1 Line BAT CSV from a pasted list of MACs and descriptions. You set the device pool, calling search space, partition, voicemail profile, and a starting DN once — the tool emits one row per phone with the right column order and correct cell escaping. It's the same template CUCM ships with, so an Insert Phones job accepts it without edits. Use it for branch stand-ups, phone model refreshes, conference-room installs, or any case where the alternative is 150 visits to the phone configuration page.
Paste phone rows, fill in defaults, click Generate CSV.
CUCM expects SEP + 12 hex. The tool normalizes MACs you paste — 00:11:22:33:44:55, 00-11-22-33-44-55, and 001122334455 all become SEP001122334455.
+12125550XXX with extension 2001 produces external caller-ID +12125550201. Adjust the number of X characters to match how many digits of the extension bleed into the mask.
BAT will not auto-create templates. If you set Standard 8841 SIP, it must already be in CUCM → Device → Device Settings → Phone Button Template before the import runs.
BAT's Phone-with-1-Line template locks the column order but not the column count — you can add extra fields at the end, but you cannot skip required ones. The required-for-insert columns are MAC Address, Description, Device Pool, Phone Button Template, and Directory Number 1. Everything else has a sensible default: if you leave CSS blank, CUCM uses the device pool's CSS; if you leave Partition blank, CUCM assigns <None> (which usually breaks dial plans — hence our default). The generator fills every column with either the value you chose or a safe blank, so the CSV uploads cleanly whether you're running a clean install or a migration.
The two CSS columns — Calling Search Space and Calling Search Space (Line 1) — trip people up. Device CSS is what applies when the phone goes off-hook without an active line. Line CSS applies when a call is placed from that specific DN. For most deployments, make them identical unless you deliberately want line-level routing differences. Our default has the line CSS be a stricter subset of the device CSS, matching the "restrictive line, permissive device" pattern for off-site forwards.
MAC address formatting is the #1 cause of BAT rejections. CUCM expects the 12-character hex prefixed with SEP for IP phones, BAT for BAT-provisioned (Autoregister) devices, and TCT/TAB/BOT for Jabber devices. This tool normalizes desk phone MACs only — if you're importing Jabber devices, prefix the device name manually after generation, or ask and we'll add a Jabber-CSV tool to the queue.
The External Phone Number Mask is subtle but important. If your mask is +12125550XXX and the DN is 2001, CUCM displays external caller-ID as +12125550201 — it overlays the last 3 characters of the mask with the last 3 digits of the DN. Get the count of Xs right. The common mistake is +1212555XXXX with a 4-digit DN, which works until you add a 3-digit extension and the caller-ID mangles. We default to 3 X's to match a typical 4-digit extension with the last-three-bleed pattern; change it to +12125555XXX for a 5-digit extension plan.
Yes, matches CUCM 10.5–15 default. Add extra line fields or EM columns to your template as needed — BAT matches by column name.
BAT fails that row with 'Device already exists'. Delete first with Bulk Admin → Phones → Delete Phones → Custom File, or switch to Update Phones.
It's our convention — change it. Leaving partition blank assigns <None> which breaks partitioned dial plans.
Yes — the Product column takes a model per row. Use matching Phone Button Templates per model (SP-7841, SP-8841, etc.).
CUCM-registered Enterprise firmware is supported. MPP firmware registers to Webex Calling, not CUCM — BAT does not apply.
New office opening, all 7841s, device pool DP_BOS, CSS CSS_Boston_Intl, starting DN 6201.
150 legacy 7940s being replaced with 8841s. Same DNs, new MACs.
15 boardrooms getting 8832 conference phones with shared DNs for reception dial-by-name.
